Technical Services

I.                   Course Description and Knowledge Base

This course will focus on budgeting, acquiring, organizing, recording and servicing material of all types, as well as investigating current practices and future possibilities. Credit: Three hours

II.                Specific Learning Objectives:

1.      Understand the role and functions of technical services operations in libraries, including acquisitions, cataloging, circulation, serials, and preservation.

2.      Understand the inter-relatedness of technical services and public services in the operation of a library.

3.      Become familiar with the current literature and reference aids of technical services.

4.      Become aware of recent advances in technology and their influence on technical services operations.

5.      Develop acceptable skills in using a modern, integrated, automated library system to perform various technical services functions.

6.      Become aware of issues, trends, and future possibilities in the field of technical services.
