Librarians as Instructional Partners

I.                   Course Description and Knowledge Base

This course will focus on learning and libraries; the role of the librarian and resource-based learning within the curriculum; the librarian as a teaching partner, team member, and instructional consultant. Learning theory and educational issues as they apply to cooperative planning, and implementation projects designed to improve information literacy and scholastic achievement. Credit: Three hours

II.                Specific Learning Objectives:

  1. To provide understanding of the essential role than an integrated library program plays in the teaching-learning process.
     

  2. To examine the instructional and the consultant roles of the librarian in furthering the learning process.
     

  3. To develop an understanding of the research process and models for teaching the process.
     

  4. To provide experience with collaborative planning for incorporating information skills into the curriculum.
     

  5. To develop an understanding of learning theory and educational issues as they relate to information literacy.
