Multimedia Resources and Services

I.                   Course Description and Knowledge Base

This course will focus on existing and emerging multimedia information technologies with emphasis on the design, production, and organization of multimedia resources for classrooms, libraries, media centers, and network-accessible information sites.  Credit: Three hours

II.                Specific Learning Objectives:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of the general principles underlying the selection and utilization of instructional media and technologies;
     

  2. Evaluate and select existing and emergent technologies to be used in support of the library program;
     

  3. Utilize appropriate multimedia software and hardware for user-centered education and for promotional activities;
     

  4. Provide and promote ongoing learning opportunities for students, particularly in the areas of integration of information technology and information literacy;
     

  5. Model and promote online collaborative planning, cooperative teaching, and direct instruction as determined by learners' needs and state curriculum standards;
     

  6. Exhibit competency in the utilization and maintenance of auxiliary equipment typically available in public, school, and academic libraries and other network-accessible information sites;
     

  7. Model and promote the highest standard of conduct, ethics, and integrity in the use of the Internet and other print and electronic resources;
     

  8. Evaluation information on the Internet, as well as the role of search engines;
     

  9. Explain the role of media in the overall instructional design and the role played by the media specialist in the school and classroom setting.
